WWF supports project for sustainable Forest Management in Panama.
Panama's indigenous people of the Emberá-Wounaan territory are taking steps toward making use of the forests without harming the environment. With support from WWF and Panama's National Environmental Authority (ANAM), the Emberá-Wounaan are learning to combat indiscriminate tree felling and applying a model that allows them to extract timber while conserving the forests.
“We base the application of the Forest Management Model in the Darién on the principles and standards of the Forest Stewardship Council, the world’s leading forestry certification organization,” said WWF Central America’s Forestry Director, Mauro Salazar”
The method has successfully been used in Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala.
